A 19th Century Steel Snaffle Bit with Tongue Plate - Bit395 western This is hallmarked London 1933An old steel bit with quite a lot of surface oxidation. It is a loose ring snaffle with a slightly mullen mouthpiece. In the centre of the mouthpiece there is an oval shaped flat piece of steel, it may have once rotated around the mouthpiece, but it is now fused in place. This plate would have stopped a horse from putting its tongue over the bit. Dimensions of bit : Mouthpiece 12. 5cm (5"), tongue plate 9. 5cm (3") long, rings 8. 5cm (3")Weight : 330g
