Young Woman Frame:black Overwhelmed by loveThe inscription is a false signature (apparently added by the artist) referring to Jean Alexis Grimou (1678 1733). The style and bravura handling are certainiy Fragonard's, as was first recognised by Rosenberg and Compin, and as the overpainted signature confirms. Rosenberg suggests a date of c. 1769.
