Lincoln promotes Green to Boatswain and signs the appointment with a bold full signature as "Abraham Lincoln". Document is countersigned by his Secretary of Navy Gideon Welles. Signed on September 27th, 1862, Lincoln autographs this document just 10 days after the battle of Antietam which to this day is still the bloodiest day
