When a family friend lent him a camera, he began work as a freelance photographer, forging connections in the industry that would eventually lead him to meet Henri Cartier Bresson and Robert Capa. In 1947, along with Cartier Bresson, Capa, George Rodger, and William Vandivert, he founded Magnum Photos. Pictured
