Steps Ahead Michael Brecker,Mike Mainieri/NY,USA 6.20.1984 Early Show Pete Townshend Midnight Rambler (B-stage) 6After discovering that the name "Steps" was trademarked by a North Carolina band, they changed their name to "Steps Ahead" in 1982. From around this time, although they had a band name, they became more and more a collaboration unit between Mike Mainieri and Michael Brecker. Mike and Michael performed an early show at the Bottom Line in New York in June 1984 with a lineup of keyboardist Warren Barnhart, drummer Peter Erskine, and bassist Tom Kennedy.
