It is named Al Aghbani in reference to the silk fabric that carries that name and is imported from Homs and Aleppo in Syria. The embroidery is done on pieces of silky polyester fabric that are olive green and orange in color. Thick silk and reed threads are used in the embroidery of this thobe using Al Tahrira stitch which Bethlehem is famous
