Mary and Jesus have a spirit of blissful love about them, and the children are drawn to it. This scene is beautiful and gives us a place to put our imaginations. The one girl looks out at us, as if to say, "Don't you wish to be here with us too?" Beauty can draw us towards God, whose nature is love. Veith was the son of an artist.
